Introduction
Set an objective threat score for any of your ten threat categories by answering two questions, then watch it flow through your profile and exposure.
Bob Vescio, Chief Innovation Officer of X-Analytics, walks through the Cyber Threat Modification & Calibration agent in the X-Analytics AI Toolbox.
What it does
Threat Calibration and Threat Assessment are two AI agents in the X-Analytics AI Toolbox that work in one motion. Threat Calibration, helps you set an objective threat score for each of your ten threat categories, based on what your organization has actually seen. Threat Assessment, turns your calibrated threat landscape into a shareable report.
Your profile carries a threat position for each of the ten threat categories on a zero-to-ten scale. By default, each one sits at the industry benchmark, which X-Analytics refreshes every month. When you want a category to reflect your own experience, Threat Calibration gives you an evidence-based way to set it.
How it works
Go to Insights > AI Tools, search “threat”, and select Calibrate Threat. X-Analytics shows your current threat score across all ten threat categories.
Pick the category you want to calibrate, and answer two questions:
- Occurrence: when your organization last experienced the threat.
- Varieties: which forms of the threat you have seen, listed from most to least common.
From those answers, the agent calculates a threat score and shows the change, so the number is transparent and defensible.
Accept it, and the score updates your profile and flows through to your overall exposure.
X-Analytics then returns you to the full list, so you can calibrate one category or all ten. When you are done, select option 11, "I am done calibrating, and I want to view my threat assessment report," and X-Analytics moves directly into Threat Assessment.
The Threat Assessment report includes:
- Your profile name, the exposure you are carrying, your macro threat condition across all ten categories, and your control effectiveness.
- An executive summary.
- An interactive threat grid across all 110 scenarios, sortable by assets with the highest threat or threats with the highest value.
- A comparison to your industry benchmark.
- A breakout of each loss category by threat category and threat variety.
- A threat card for every applicable threat category, ordered from most risk to least, showing risk carried, control effectiveness, loss type, associated assets, and threat varieties.
The report is a shareable artifact. Edit it and add citations, save it to the Vault, or generate a time-limited link so anyone can review it, even without access to X-Analytics.
If you calibrate instead of using industry benchmarks, recalibrate monthly, and no longer than every 90 days. You can also update threat through the CrowdStrike agent.
What you walk away with
- An objective threat score for any category, grounded in what you have seen.
- A transparent calculation you can explain and defend.
- A profile and exposure that update the moment you accept a score.
- A shareable Threat Assessment report covering your exposure, control effectiveness, and every applicable threat.
- Industry benchmarks, refreshed monthly, as your starting point.
Frequently asked questions
What is the X-Analytics Threat Calibration agent?
It is an AI agent in the X-Analytics AI Toolbox that sets an objective threat score for any of your ten threat categories, based on your organization's own experience, and flows the result through your profile and exposure. It was previously named the Cyber Threat Modification & Calibration agent.
How does the agent calculate a threat score?
You answer two questions for the category you are calibrating: when your organization last experienced the threat, and which varieties you have seen. The agent calculates a score on the zero-to-ten scale from those answers and shows the change.
What sets the starting value for each threat category?
Each of the ten threat categories defaults to its industry benchmark, which X-Analytics refreshes every month. You can calibrate any category to your own experience, and return to the benchmark at any time.
What is the Threat Assessment agent?
A new AI agent that generates a shareable report on your threat landscape: exposure, macro threat condition, control effectiveness, a threat grid across 110 scenarios, an industry benchmark comparison, and a threat card for every applicable threat category.
How often should I recalibrate?
If you calibrate instead of using industry benchmarks, recalibrate monthly, and no longer than every 90 days.
Can I share the Threat Assessment report outside X-Analytics?
Yes. Generate a shareable link with the duration you choose, and anyone with the link can review the report.
