Introduction
To benchmark your cyber risk against your industry, compare your financial exposure as a percent of revenue, threat level, cyber maturity, and security budget against peers in the most specific industry that matches your business. A narrower benchmark, like fintech within financial services, gives you a more accurate read on where you stand.
X-Analytics makes this a few clicks. Industry Benchmark Analysis lets you choose from 50+ industry benchmarks, then see that industry's exposure, loss drivers, top cyber risks, and the risk-reducing actions that matter most, in minutes. Turn the result into a shareable report and save it to the Vault.

What is Industry Benchmark Analysis?
Industry Benchmark Analysis is an Agent in the X-Analytics AI Toolbox that generates cyber risk benchmark data for any of 50+ industries. It goes beyond your profile's primary industry vertical, so you can compare against the industry that matches your business. On the Insights page, Show Trend displays a dashed line for your profile's industry benchmark, set from one of 21 primary verticals in Profile Settings.
Why does a more specific benchmark matter?
A more specific benchmark reflects the risks your business actually carries. Your business may be a subset of its macro vertical, or unique in some way. A financial services firm may look more like fintech, a large financial services firm, or the securities industry, and each carries a different exposure, threat profile, and set of loss drivers.
| Profile industry benchmark | Industry Benchmark Analysis | |
|---|---|---|
| Industries available | 21 primary verticals | 50+ benchmarks |
| Where you find it | Insights page, Show Trend | AI Toolbox, search "industry" |
| What it shows | Benchmark line for cyber exposure as a percent of revenue | Exposure, threat score, cyber maturity, cyber budget, loss drivers, top risks, risk-reducing actions, trends, and forecast |
| Best for | A quick read on whether you sit above or below your industry | A deeper comparison to the industry that matches your business |
| Shareable | Part of your profile view | Converts into a shareable artifact for the Vault, board reports, and presentations |
How do you run an industry benchmark in X-Analytics?
Open the Agent from the search bar, choose a benchmark, and select Analyze Benchmark.
- Open the Agent. Type "industry" in the search bar, select Industry Benchmark Analysis, then select Benchmark Analysis.
- Choose your path. The Agent asks if you want to analyze your current industry benchmark. Select yes to see the benchmark tied to your profile, or no to see every available benchmark.
- Pick a benchmark. In the walkthrough, fintech is selected in place of the broader financial and insurance services vertical.
- Select Analyze Benchmark. X-Analytics generates the benchmark report for that industry.
- Go deeper. Ask questions about anything in the benchmark, including how it compares to your current profile.
- Share and save. Convert the benchmark into a shareable artifact, edit it, share it by link, and save it to the Vault.
What metrics are in an industry benchmark report?
Each report covers headline metrics, loss drivers, top risks, risk-reducing actions, trends, and industry context.
- Headline metrics. Cyber exposure as a percent of revenue, threat score, cyber maturity, and cyber budget as a percent of revenue. In the walkthrough, fintech exposure comes in at 1.78% of revenue, with a cyber budget of about 0.9% of revenue.
- Loss drivers. The primary, secondary, and tertiary loss drivers for the industry. These often surprise teams: the biggest driver may be theft of intellectual property, fund transfer fraud, or business interruption, ahead of data breach.
- Exposure by loss category. Each loss category and its share of total exposure.
- Top cyber risks. For fintech, web application attacks intersecting with servers and apps lead the list.
- Top risk-reducing actions. For fintech, vulnerability scanning and remediation leads. The report also shows how much risk you could reduce by implementing the top five actions fully, almost 24% in this case.
- Trend and forecast. Up to twelve months of history, plus a forecast of where exposure could go. Newer benchmarks may have less than twelve months of history.
- Cyber maturity by function. How the industry scores across each function, which can reveal gaps like strong respond and recover scores next to a weaker govern score.
- Industry context. Security challenges, notable incidents, citations, and disclaimers.
How do you share an industry benchmark?
Convert the benchmark into a shareable artifact, then share it by link or save it to the Vault. Before converting, ask follow-up questions inside the Agent, such as details on a notable incident or how the benchmark compares to your profile. Once converted, edit the artifact to add notes, citations, or context on any metric card, then select Save Changes. To share, select Share, set the link duration, and select Generate Link, then paste the link into an email, Slack, or Teams message. Select Save to Vault to keep the report for future reference and sharing, and weave the data into board reports and other presentations.
What do you walk away with?
- A benchmark that matches your business, from 50+ industries
- Loss drivers, top risks, and the risk-reducing actions that matter most for that industry
- A shareable benchmark report, saved to the Vault and ready for board reports and presentations
